THE TALKNOW STORY

TalkNow started as a doodle on a piece of paper.

There were five of us in the beginning — three programmers and two designers — and we were all a little tired of how serious online social apps had become.

Everything felt polished to death. Perfect profile photos. Carefully written bios. Endless swiping. Ten different filters before two people even said hello. Somehow, meeting someone online had started to feel less like meeting a person and more like filling out an application form.

the actual first sketch (approximately)

One day, while we were talking about how annoying that was, one of us drew a ridiculous little letter T on a piece of paper. It had wings. There were arrows around it, a badly drawn heart, and a video-camera doodle that honestly looked terrible.

That messy sketch eventually became the first idea behind TalkNow.

It started with a badly drawn T.

We didn’t want to build another stiff, serious dating app. We wanted something that felt more like writing on a wall, passing notes in class, or opening a random door and seeing who happened to be standing on the other side.

No perfectly arranged dinner photos. No pretending every conversation has to become something important. No pressure to make yourself look like a personal brand.

Just two people on a screen, talking.

Sometimes the conversation is funny. Sometimes it gets a little flirty. Sometimes both people have absolutely nothing to say for ten incredibly awkward seconds. That’s fine. Real conversations are messy. That’s kind of why we like them.

The doodles stayed, too.

The crooked lines, thick outlines, random hearts, scribbled arrows and slightly chaotic layout are not there because we forgot how to use a grid. They are there because TalkNow is supposed to feel human — a little imperfect, spontaneous and alive.

The internet already has enough places where everyone looks polished.

We wanted one where you could just show up.

Less perfect. More real.

Talk. Laugh. Get awkward. Meet somebody completely unexpected. Leave if it isn’t your vibe. Stay if it is.

That’s TalkNow.

Why video?

Because people are terrible at fitting into six photos and a bio.

A live video conversation gives you everything a profile misses — timing, voice, expressions, bad jokes, awkward pauses and that tiny moment when two people realize they actually have something to talk about.

You can learn more in two minutes of real conversation than twenty minutes of scrolling.

Why random?

Because the internet became very good at helping us find exactly what we already thought we wanted. Random chat does the opposite.

It puts somebody unexpected on the screen. Different city. Different accent. Different taste in music. Maybe completely wrong for you. Maybe strangely easy to talk to.

You don’t know until you say hi.

Enough about us.

Go meet someone.
